The Creation of a Diamond

Diamonds were created deep within the earth 3.5 billion years ago when under extreme temperatures and pressure liquid carbon was crystallized forming diamonds. Every diamond is as old as the Earth and has as many secrets.

Diamonds which are older than stars have an amazing journey. While rocks eroded overtime diamonds survived in fact they were harder than the rocks. These diamonds lay undiscovered for hundreds of millions of years. In this process diamonds keep their secrets with them.

Discovery

The first diamonds were mined in India. It was over 4000 years ago. Even though there are a lot of technological methods; it is still very hard to reach the diamond. Geologists try to find the most valuable stones in the world, from Siberia to Canada, from the deserts of Africa to the bottom of ocean.

Diamonds are extremely rare and it's estimated that it takes mining 1.3 tons of rock in order to reveal just 1 carat.

Modern mining as we know, it began in South Africa in the late 19th century. Today, the top seven diamond-producing countries are Botswana, Russia, South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Australia and Zaire.
